It bothers me how it is usually taught that using a minor 5 chord in a minor key is a bad thing and should never be done. I like that you show the minor 5 chord as an option. There is no question that the major 5 increases the pull to the tonic and strengthens the cadence but sometimes the minor 5 is what is needed for the desired effect. I own a music school and one of my instructors argued with me on this point tonight. He learned that it is always a no no. Great video.
thanks for the progression…you must have a very strong pinky finger to press all those strings down in the D major and C major chord. I’ve got to use my ring finger….
This is an amazing lesson. But augh… that buzzing. >.<
minor keys are are dark riffs that are great in black metal

You are a great teacher! I really like your lessons and the way you teach or deliver the lessons to a beginner student like me. Thanks a lot
this is exactly what i have been looking for thank you sir!
so what chords is he listing from 4:25? different versions of the 6th chord?
that is sort of what they did in that song!
Sounds like Hotel California by the Eagles. He’s quite good, glad I found this.
That chromatic bit helped me so much. I’ve use diminished chords a bunch in harmonic minor but never put together how to use it to modulate keys. Fantastic lesson.
Cool stuff, ive been more into making songs and the technical side of things. and even though i have a small grasp of theory, never ventured into thinking much about it. Though sometimes i have a chord, arpeggio or sound i want to get and have to play around to try to find it. I’m guessing theory would help alot with that and with songwriting, trying to find the next chord or the next line. subscribed. My channel has my original music if you would like to check it out!
Cheers and thank you
i agree. should have way more hits. This is quality.. i suppose way too practical and real for the ‘i can play guitar’!! people!
