There is no American scale, the only one I can think of that really fits uniquely in our culture is the Major Blues or “Country” Scale, and the Minor Blues or “Blues” scale
since most of our music these past centuries has been founded on both of them.

What’s the “American” scale? Since we American’s are very diverse these days, is there one? Just thinking to myself…

  • SoDesilicious 11 years ago

Actually yes, there is. Balkan, Turkish, Romanian and Greek music is Europa

The most exotic scale i know is the chromatic scale. Chose the right notes and you can play any of these scales add in 1/4 tone bends and you’ve got it all. Great lessons but, i prefer to find these sounds myself as it makes them easier to remember. (for me)

Hey Carl, I’ve watched tons of videos and learned a lot but this was one of the best videos (in my opinion) I’d love to learn more exotic stuff, Indian, Chinese, Eqyptian and the list goes on… please take that into consideration, I think a lot of people would like to get away from the standards pentatonic scales etc.

Truly, most arabic scales include quarter tones or “Prebent notes”
Bayati for example would have a quarter step bent 2nd fret note as the second degree of the scale. Would you like to know more, I’ve got a blog I’m writing about this sort of thing. There are arabic scales without quarter tone bends but they are scales such as the persian for example. ^^
