I’ve watched several videos and this is the first one where I finally understood what I was supposed to do!
thanks so much for this great video!!! very well explained! thanx!!!
You’re welcome, glad it was helpful.
Having wanted to learn guitar for years, Hubs put one under the holiday fir this year! I’ve been teaching myself chords in the A and D families, but feel so sluggish and yucko! I googled “guitar exercises for beginner guitar players” and your’s was first I picked. THANK YOU!!!! You’ve given me hope, especially noting the 2-week time period for tendons to adjust. Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!!
True, the feel is important, brand name or model is going to vary heavily from person to person. Having small hands is only a handicap if you focus on it that way. Go to a music store try out several guitars and you will get an idea of what works best for your hands.
Get a guitar that fits your hands well. I’ve known 6 year olds with hands the same size as mine…for electrics, try a Fender Mustang or a Dean Vendetta (both are full size with very slim necks).
Awesome video dude,I am a drummer by trade but have always wanted to try the guitar.Bought a decent Samick and here we are.I love that you stress to keep your
first finger on the fretboard doing the exercise, not only as an anchor but also as tool to strengthen the rest of your hand.I’ve had the issue of trying to seperate my middle and ring fingers and this exercise helped right away.Anchor that first finger and its easy.Think I can play like Joe Bonamassa in about a week?Thank Bro
This is a great exercise! Thanks.

You can start out with just down picking to focus on the fretting hand, once it gets easier, then move on to alternate picking.
Do you recommend alternate strumming with the right hand while doing this drill, or not really?
