Here’s guitarist Mak Grgic playing Bach’s Chaconne on a rare 1950 Ignacio Fleta classical guitar at the Guitar Salon International showroom. This is a rather rare guitar, as Fleta did not make very many guitars before 1955 as he mainly made other string instruments. Video Rating: 4 / 5 Here’s Marc Teicholz performing at Guitar Salon International during his concert ‘Valseana Live’, where he played on 8 important guitars, including a 1921 Santos, a 1930 Esteso, a 1952 Hauser I, a 1971 Friederich, a 2007 Blochinger, a 1936 Fleta, a 1969 ‘Churchdoor’ Rodriguez and an 1867 Torres. Here he is on the 1971 Friederich playing his arrangement of Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Op. 8, No. 4 “Largo” and Ricardo Iznaola’s arrangement of the Grande Valse Brillante, Op. 18. Video shot by Jurgen Reisch (www.JurgenReisch.com). Video Rating: 4 / 5

A genius composition demands genius rendering. Fantastic.

A lot of young guitarists have perfect technique, but this one also has a deep and unique interpretation. Plus the power of a great Fleta, I have to say this is my most favorite Chaconne version that I’ve ever heard!

The depth comes from the light construction, it is not really related to bigger and heavier Madrid style guitars. It is the same size as a second epoch Torres, or a Garcia/Simplicio, and the bracing is likely Torres too.

I think it’s better than hauser guitar, totally different!, i can feel the deeper madrid sound, full projection, powerfull, great for all periode of music, from renaissance to modern (Dowland to Williams)

IMHO, way better than a double top. What a tone

Great, great, beautiful performance! Chaconne is my favourite Bach’s composition…and I never thought that someone could play it that powerful on guitar… bravo Mak!

Great playing but that guitar sounds phenomenal! What is the price for this guitar?

@2:40 the guitar has been tuned.

  • RoblesHu 11 years ago

Lack of tuning ruined all the work well done!!!

  • RoblesHu 11 years ago

La falta de afinación en el acorde que suena en el minuto 2,05 se podrá atribuír a las cuerdas de carbón?

  • gtarszzz 11 years ago

    BraahhhhhVoooOHHH!!

  • Mardae Selepak 11 years ago

Sounds terrible with those metallic carbon strings. Way to ruin a nice guitar

  • TablePenis 11 years ago

Nice arrangement but the rubato is over the top. It’s bordering on a parody of romantic expression. Well executed anyway.

I agree that this piece is better on the piano but by saying that the guitar should only be used for parlor music you simply showcase your own ignorance. I had thought the enormous effort of Segovia, Bream and all the contemporary guitarists had throughtoutly removed such outdated and ignorant opinions but I guess that stupidity will always previal.

    Oh yeah, you’re right ! :)

  • lousycactus 11 years ago

He plays 2 pieces, the grande valse brillante op18 starts at 2:40

  • radu122 11 years ago

This is not the grand valse, it is a prelude (no.4)

  • lousycactus 11 years ago

Just for clarification, the grande valse he is playing has been transposed to E right?

  • mikesbootleg 11 years ago

I wonder does he have issues with carpal tunnel syndrome? The intense movement of the hand and fingers while curled inward. If so what does he use to combat it?

  • MrEricmusicable 11 years ago

One of the best classical guitarists i have seen!

  • carloseduardoiel 11 years ago

I wonder where I can find the Ricardo Iznaola’s arrangement of the Grande Valse Brillante, Op. 18. I’ve searched the internet but I couldn’t find anything. Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.
