If anyone is looking for an explanation of the scale modes discussed in this video, I have a video on my page called “Seven Modes In Seven Minutes,” in which I explain all 7 modes…in 7 minutes. (Creative video title, huh?)

This is a good advanced lesson which can lead to fluent improvisation. With the “Guitar Jam Tracks” app, this is all you do.

@kotapaka Actually it’s impossible to play with your feet while on heavy sleeping pills… You do realize that being a guitarist doesn’t give you super powers, right? Idiot. And I bet you can’t play for shit, jackass.

for those saying that dan needs to give up playing guitar…..
To tell a man to give up on what he loves to do is a pure waste of breath. How could you be so ignorant to see that if he has been playing for 40 years he obviously enjoys it. so who are you to tell him that if he cant play well he should give up?
To Dan- Keep on keepin on. dont let these kids get in your head.

i don’t get this… B aolian, E dorian… is the same thing as D major ( ionian) Isn’t there a deeper way or meaning for the use of modes? like jumping to a D lydian during this solo or something like E phrygian or something.. like for an outside sound?

I don’t understand when people say just use E dorian on the ii when youre in D major cause they are the same notes already as D major… as long as you know which notes to start/stop on

Yeah I know hearing the truth in your face hurts. You probably thought you’re the greatest player but let me break it to you – people learn how to build space shuttles faster than you’ve learned how to play a guitar. Most musicians learn to play several instruments proficiently and it takes them less than half of what it took you to learn a guitar and you’re still learning the basics!!! WTF are you retarded or something?

  • Dan6399 11 years ago

Hey fuck you ya smartass JERK.

  • Kotapaka Kotapakov 11 years ago

you’re still working on your basics after 40 years? Then you need to give it up man. After 40 years you should be able to play with your feet while under heavy sleeper pills.

wasted years ?? Iron maiden inspired?

  • ricardoolois 11 years ago

This is simply beautiful. I basically was thinking of the same thing. I felt like, in a box. I wanted to do the scale but, with the whole neck, not just within a certain area. I still have some trouble because I’m still a novice and I don’t know the names of the notes through all the strings, but with this video, Im gonna practice them. Simply awesome, Nad it was just with 2 strings, Imagine with all 6. 10/10

Couldn’t stop looking at your ears tucked into your friggin hat though…rofl

Thanks for the ideas! And the reminder not to ever wear a hat that’s too big.
